Calmness and stillness— what I feel when I wande

Calmness and stillness— what I feel when I wander this side of the world.

However, I couldn’t help but get disheartened whenever I see first hand what we have done to this beautiful world; there were dead corals almost everywhere.

So I did some research to know more about this and this is what I found on the internet: Corals dying are normally caused by illegal fishing techniques, pollution, careless tourism, other natural phenomena such as earthquakes and hurricanes, and of course, climate change.

Why do we need corals? Without corals and the ocean species that rely on them, the ecosystem crashes, and a seaweed-dominated ecosystem takes its place. Once coral reefs disappear, we will lose everything they provide, including marine biodiversity, productive fisheries and potential source of medicines.

So what can we do? I found these but feel free to comment anything that can help us save the marine life.
1. Conserve water, this reduces runoff and wastewater to the ocean.
2. Volunteer at local beach or reef clean-ups,
3. When you visit coral reefs or coastal areas, consult local guides, clean up your trash, never touch or harass wildlife
4. and avoid dropping anchor near a coral reef.

On a lighter note, in some parts of the island there were live corals and a lot were replanted according to the locals. Let’s do our part, one simple act can make a difference.

I’m not a professional freediver or a marine biologist or anywhere near that. I am just a citizen of this world, who wants to do her part in taking care of what has been freely given to us.🙏🏼
